Black Opal is the fifth and second highest tier of Gem. It can be crafted into the Black Opal Necklace and Ring using the Crafting skill. These are the second highest tier of jewelry, behind the extremely rare and uncraftable Prismatic Necklace and Ring.
Obtaining
Black Opals can be obtained through the Mining skill. All zones have a small chance to drop gems, with Black Opal being the rarest.
The chance of finding gems while mining can be increased by enchanting a pickaxe with the prospector enchantment. They can also be found from foraging by using a hatchet equipped with Root Digging, or by smithing while wearing gloves enchanted with refining.
Geodes, Bird Nests, Sunken Treasure and Satchels drop Black Opals at a rate of approximately 1/20 (based on a sample of 150 nests).
