The Chaos Crest (also known as the Crest of Chaos) is a fiery helmet that provides 5 effective smithing levels. Together with the Smith's Golem Torso, the Smith's Golem Legs and Dwarven Tongs, this crest comprises the Smithing Set.

Set Bonus

There are 2 set bonuses available:

• Master Smith is achieved by wearing the Chaos Crest together with the Smith's Golem Torso and Smith's Golem Legs. This bonus increases equipment based smithing stats by 20% while reducing damage taken and increases damage dealt by 25%.

• Legendary Smith requires all 3 armor pieces and the Dwarven Tongs. This bonus overrides Master Smith and increases equipment based smithing stats by 40% while reducing damage received and increases damage dealt by 50%.

Acquisition

The Chaos Crest can be obtained as a reward from the Palace of Flame or as a drop from elite demons inhabiting the Lava Maze, the Fallen Wizard Tower, the Dwarven Research Station and The Pit.

Alternatively, this crest requires level 20 in Defense and is the result of successfully transforming the Obsidian Helm during Item Research.

Enchanting

By default the Chaos Crest possesses Krakatoa, a fire attack that is 25% slower, 25% more accurate, and does double the damage with a cooldown of at least 45 seconds. While the crest can be disenchanted and re-enchanted, doing so may affect the set's bonuses.
