Runecrafting
Runecrafting allows players to create runes from rune slates (acquired through mining) and essences. These runes are required for enchanting.

Levels
Every 20 effective levels will allow you to craft an additional rune at no cost. These extra runes will also give additional experience.

Runes/Essence
To start runecrafting, players must first gather essence by doing various activities.
Crafting a rune always provides 25 runecrafting experience.

Fire essence is gathered while smithing or cooking. |

Blood essence is gathered by dealing damage to enemies during combat. |

Death essence is gathered by killing monsters in combat. |

Chaos essence is gathered by attempting to hit monsters during combat (on every swing of a weapon). |

Talisman
Once a talisman is consumed, essence will be gathered at five times the normal rate for that specific type. Each talisman of the same type consumed after the first will grant a random, large amount of essence of that type.
Talismans are uncommon items obtained when opening chests; geodes, bird's nests, sunken treasures, and satchels.
Giants can also rarely drop a corresponding talisman for their type.
