Cooking is a skill that allows raw ingredients to be combined into an edible food; healing hitpoints when eaten, plus giving various buffs depending on the recipe/combination of ingredients used. To do this, the player can add up to 5 ingredients into the pot by interacting with them in Ingredients Window on the right and then using Heat to cook them.

Depending on the player's Effective Cooking level, food will sometimes burn, giving the player either Burnt Food or Burnt Fish depending on the type of ingredients used. The effective cooking level and amount of ingredients used also effects the level of food produced, which directly effects the amount of buff stacks the food will have. Cooking with raw fish has a chance to produce Fish Oil. By leveling Cooking, the player is able to cook better foods that give increased healing and better buffs.

Food has a chance to burn, depending on the player's effective cooking level, resulting in either Burnt Food or Burnt Fish depending on the type of ingredients used. Effective cooking level and the amount of ingredients used also effects the level of food produced, which directly affects the amount of buff stacks the food will have. The quality (augmentation levels/bonus) of your food is based on two factors:

*The first factor is the base quality of your recipe and ingredients. Higher tier ingredients generally result in better food, where the Exp of an ingredient are a good indicator for its tier.
+
*The first factor is the base quality of your recipe and ingredients. Higher tier ingredients generally result in better food, the experience an ingredient gives when cooked is a good indicator for its tier.

*The second factor is your effective cooking level, which is a combination of your Cooking level (including mastery) and additional modifiers such as an augmented Ladle. Each 30 effective levels the quality will be improved by 1.
+
*The second factor is your effective cooking level, which is a combination of your cooking level (including mastery) and additional modifiers such as an augmented ladle. Every 30 effective levels will increase the quality of food cooked by 1.

Each quality of food will give additional hp healed based on the base hp of the recipe and 2 additional stack of its buff.

Each level of quality of a food will give additional health healed based on the base hitpoints of the recipe, and 2 additional stacks of its buff (if applicable).

Buffs
Buffs
Eating food created with a few specific ingredients (see below) can give various buffs to help actions similar to Enchantments. The amount of stacks given by the buff will be determined by the quality of the food which, in turn, is determined by your Effective Cooking Level which is a combination of your Cooking level and additional modifiers such as using an augmented Ladle.

Eating food created with a few specific ingredients (see below) can give various buffs, similar to those from enchantments. The number of buff stacks given by the food is determined by the quality of the food which in turn, is determined by effective cooking level (a combination of base cooking level and additional modifiers such as an augmented ladle)).

Food Buffs with an enchant equivalent will still stack with the enchant effect making it useful to have buffs when doing various activities.

:- Example:(If you have a 30% Inferno buff from Scroll of Inferno, and a 10% Inferno Buff from food, you will have a 40% Inferno buff total)

 +
Identical food buffs and enchantments will stack. E.G. if a player has an active 30% Inferno buff from a scroll of inferno, and a 10% inferno buff from food, they will have a total of 40%.

Normal and combat food can both be eaten at any time from the inventory to restore HP, combat buffs will only be applied if the food is eaten during combat. Combat buffs will not be keep upon exiting combat, while skill based buffs can be applied by consuming food directly from the inventory and will remain permanently until used. All non combat buffs will be consumed even when doing unrelated actions except combat actions.

:- Inferno stacks will be used even when not Smithing
+
Food can be eaten any time to recover health, but only food brought in the combat inventory may be used during combat. Combat buffs will only be applied if the food is eaten during combat. Combat buffs will not be kept upon exiting combat, while skill-based buffs gained from eating food in combat will be kept until used once out of combat. Non-combat buff stacks are consumed by performing an action out of combat, regardless of the type of skill being trained. I.E inferno stacks will be used even when not smithing

Ingredients
Ingredients
 +
Primary ingredients can be combined to produce food with a buffs, and neutral ingredients (those without an enchantment) can be used as a secondary ingredient to the primary one. The number and quality of ingredients will provide more/less buff stacks and healing. E.G. 1 pepper (primary, inferno) + 1 potato (secondary, neutral) will result in grilled veggies with the inferno buff. 1 pepper (primary, inferno) + 4 pumpkins (secondary, neutral) will still result in grilled veggies, but the quality of the food will be much higher.

Ingredients can be combined to produce food with a desired buff. Neutral ingredients(ingredients without an Enchantment) can be combined with a modifier(ingredient with an Enchantment) ingredient with an Enchantment to make a recipe with a desired buff.
+
A dish can only have 1 type of buff, attempting to cook food with 2 primary ingredients will result in questionable food. E.G. to make a candied fruit a fruit and a spice is required, but using both pepper (inferno buff) and bananas (gathering buff) will not work

Combat recipes can not have skilling related buffs and vice versa, skilling related recipes can not have combat buffs.

:- Example: To make food with the Inferno buff you need to Pepper to a recipe.

::- 1 Pumpkin and 1 Pepper will result in Grilled Veggies with the Inferno buff. In addition, 4 Pumpkins and 1 Pepper will result in Grilled Veggies but the level of the food will be higher and subsequently have more buff stacks.

Cooking UI
Incomplete.PNG
This page or section is incomplete and could use improvement.
Reason: The mechanics of cooking and its ingredients is still not fully understood.
You can discuss this issue on the talk page or edit this page to improve it.

Cooking is a skill that allows raw ingredients to be combined into an edible food; healing hitpoints when eaten and sometimes giving various buffs depending on the recipe. Players can add up to 5 ingredients into the pot by interacting with them in ingredients window on the right and then using Heat to cook them.

By leveling cooking, the player is able to cook better foods that give increased healing and better buffs.

Cooking goes hand-in-hand with the fishing, foraging and farming skills, as the player can cook using the ingredients they obtain.

Uses

  • Food can be placed in the combat inventory to recover health during combat.
    - Combat buffs are only applied when food is eaten during combat.
  • Can be used to obtain various buffs that help in other skills such as foraging, mining, etc.
  • Cooking fish has a chance to produce fish iil which can be used in the crafting skill to create pyre logs.

Fish Oil Chance

Fish Chance*
Shrimp 5%
Anchovy 5%
Trout 10%
Salmon 10%
Lobster 15%
Tuna 15%
Shark 20%

*This is per fish used. I.E. cooking with 1 shark and 1 tuna results in a 35% chance, while cooking with 5 sharks will result in a 100% chance to receive fish oil.

Quality

The quality (augmentation levels/bonus) of your food is based on two factors:

  • The first factor is the base quality of your recipe and ingredients. Higher tier ingredients generally result in better food, the experience an ingredient gives when cooked is a good indicator for its tier.
  • The second factor is your effective cooking level, which is a combination of your cooking level (including mastery) and additional modifiers such as an augmented ladle. Every 30 effective levels will increase the quality of food cooked by 1.

Each level of quality of a food will give additional health healed based on the base hitpoints of the recipe, and 2 additional stacks of its buff (if applicable).

Buffs

Eating food created with a few specific ingredients (see below) can give various buffs, similar to those from enchantments. The number of buff stacks given by the food is determined by the quality of the food which in turn, is determined by effective cooking level (a combination of base cooking level and additional modifiers such as an augmented ladle)).

Identical food buffs and enchantments will stack. E.G. if a player has an active 30% Inferno buff from a scroll of inferno, and a 10% inferno buff from food, they will have a total of 40%.

Ingredients

Primary ingredients can be combined to produce food with a buffs, and neutral ingredients (those without an enchantment) can be used as a secondary ingredient to the primary one. The number and quality of ingredients will provide more/less buff stacks and healing. E.G. 1 pepper (primary, inferno) + 1 potato (secondary, neutral) will result in grilled veggies with the inferno buff. 1 pepper (primary, inferno) + 4 pumpkins (secondary, neutral) will still result in grilled veggies, but the quality of the food will be much higher.

A dish can only have 1 type of buff, attempting to cook food with 2 primary ingredients will result in questionable food. E.G. to make a candied fruit a fruit and a spice is required, but using both pepper (inferno buff) and bananas (gathering buff) will not work
