Potions are liquids that imbue the user with temporary and beneficial magical powers or enchantments. Most potion magics improve productivity by:
- reducing materials or Heat used in production
- increasing the quality or number of resources gathered or goods created
- speeding up item production or material gathering
- improving the chance to find or create a rare material or item
Effects
A potion's effects last one production, gathering or combat turn per potion use. Potions may be stored in inventory or drank in quantity. Their buffs can be paused or resumed in game while not in battle.
Drinking potions with identical enchantments but differing power levels is not additive. For example, drinking a potion with Cooking 1 followed by a potion with Cooking 2 does not result in the chef gaining a Cooking 3 buff. Doing so will place the potion with the higher level Cooking 2, in queue for consumption before Cooking 1. All consumed uses of Cooking 2 must be gone before Cooking 1 will take effect.
While potions only affect the drinker, some of these buffs can be made available game wide through purchase at the Shrine of Toucan with in-game gold or at the Platinum Shop with real life currency. Potion enchantments are additive to their respective global buff as well as additive to buffs caused by wearing enhanced gear possessing the same buff.
Quality
Potions are divided into four levels of quality or strength as designated by the type of potion: Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary with the first being of lowest quality (potion strength of 1) and the rest in ascending quality (potion strengths 2-4).
The quality of the potion is determined by the number of ingredients used to brew the potion through cooking alchemy. Higher quality potions require more ingredients, more heat and higher Cooking skill to brew. Legendary potions contain enchantments that are more powerful than their lower quality counterparts.
Containers
Potions require containers such as empty vials to create new potions. Upgraded potions require lesser quality potion containers with an identical enchantment. For example common Shrimp Lord 1 potions, rare Shrimp Lord 2 potions or epic Shrimp Lord 3 potions can be upgraded to legendary Shrimp Lord 4 potions.

Potions can not be downgraded to lesser quality nor can they be emptied back into their Empty Vial state.
Potions with an existing enchantment can not be used to create potions with different enchantments.
Value and Rarity
Vendor price is not a reflection of a potion's value just as quality is not a reflection of a potion's rarity. Some potions are more 'valuable' due to the scarcity of their ingredients. For example, Intuition potions are created from rare sageberries.
Other potions have relatively higher value due to the nature of their enchantment. For example, Empowered Gathering potions provide increased gathering capabilities without the cost of runes in comparison to regular Gathering potions.
The rarest potions are ones that can not be brewed but must be earned in combat such as the Gold Leaf Cook potion which is only dropped by completing the dungeon Master Chicken's Kitchen.
Acquisition
Many potions are sold in the Marketplace, while others are only available as dungeon drops. Most potionmakers brew their own using cooking alchemy. Sufficient vials (or existing lower quality potion flasks with identical magics) and heat must be applied with the necessary ingredients to produce new or upgraded versions of the desired enchanted potion.
