What are they?
Dangerous Encounters are unavoidable simulated combat encounters that occur randomly when the player is doing a gathering skill. Mechanically Dangerous Encounters are the same across all three gathering skills, the only difference between them is the monster that is simulated and consequentially the type of loot they drop. Having a Dangerous Encounter delays your character by up to 90 seconds depending on a variety of factors mentioned below. Delays are applied to your next action meaning you can't escape them even if you swap zones. The monsters in these encounters typically are able to drop some skill related materials / chests.
How do I avoid them?
You can't escaped Dangerous Encounters entirely but you can reduce the rate in which they occur by wearing a Camo Cloak and by having the "Sneaky Gatherer" affix on a cape. This affix can be put on a Camo Cloak to reduce the chance of one occurring even further.
How do I reduce the delay?
To keep things simple here's what matters if you want to reduce your delay:
- How high your total combat and combat mastery levels are.
- Your equipped weapons total strength / intellect / dexterity.
- Your effective gathering level.
- If you are wearing a Camo Cloak / Flamboyant Cape.
- If applicable, what set bonus your skilling gear has.
How do Dangerous Encounters work?
- A base delay of 30 seconds is set.
- The game will choose a relevant monster to "spawn" and total up its stats.
- If you are wearing the Flamboyant Cape you have a 1 in 25 chance to get an elite variant instead.
- Your combat stats, gear stats, and effective level are then totalled.
- If you have a gathering set bonus this number is then also multiplied higher.
- A modifier is calculated to change the delay to be between 50% - 300%. The higher your stats and gear are compared to the monsters total stats will modify this delay down closer towards 50%.
- The 30 second base delay then gets modified based on the above.
- If you are wearing a camo/flambo cloak the delay gets reduced one last time (-20%/-10%). Resulting in a delay between 12s at best to 90s at worst
