Potions are liquids that imbue the user with temporary and beneficial magical powers or enchantments. Most potion magics improve productivity by:

  • reducing materials or Heat used in production
  • increasing the quality or number of resources gathered or goods created
  • speeding up item production or material gathering
  • improving the chance to find or create a rare material or item

Brewing

Although many potions are sold in the Marketplace Marketplace, potion makers usually brew their own through alchemy. Since alchemy is a subtask of the Cooking skill, brewing potions will:

  3. Select the desired potion quality (strength) using the green slider (Common=1, Rare=2, Epic=3, Legendary=4).
  4. Click the empty Cauldron and choose a Vial type.
  5. Click on Start to begin brewing.
  6. Potions will continue to brew until:
    • the Stop button is selected,
    • an ingredient, reagent or the heat Heat runs out, or
    • another skill action (excluding Farming Farming and Crafting Crafting) is performed.

Recipes

Potion recipes become available as the player progresses to higher levels of cooking and gathers enough raw ingredients and reagents to produce them. A sufficient quantity of vials (or existing lower quality potion flasks with identical magics) and heat Heat must be applied with the necessary ingredients to produce new or upgraded versions of the desired enchanted potion.

Note: the descriptions in this recipe table are those belonging to potions with enchantment strengths of 1.

Effects

A potion's effects last one production, gathering or combat turn per potion use. Potions may be stored in inventory or drank in quantity. Their buffs can be paused or resumed in game while not in battle.

Drinking potions with identical enchantments but differing power levels is not additive. For example, drinking a potion with Cooking 1 followed by a potion with Cooking 2 does not result in the chef gaining a Cooking 3 buff. Doing so will place the potion with the higher level Cooking 2, in queue for consumption before Cooking 1. All consumed stacks of Cooking 2 must be gone before Cooking 1 will take effect.

While potions only affect the drinker, some of these buffs can be made available game wide through purchase at the Shrine Shrine of Toucan with in-game gold or at the Platinum Shop with real life currency. Potion enchantments are additive to their respective global buff as well as additive to buffs caused by wearing enhanced gear possessing the same buff.

Quality

Potions are divided into four levels of quality or strength as designated by the type of potion: Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary with the first being of lowest quality (potion strength of 1) and the rest in ascending quality (potion strengths 2-4).

The quality of the potion is determined by the number of ingredients used to brew the potion through cooking alchemy. Higher quality potions require more ingredients, more heat and higher Cooking skill to brew. Legendary potions contain enchantments that are more powerful than their lower quality counterparts.

Containers

Potions require containers such as empty vials to create new potions. Upgraded potions require lesser quality potion containers with an identical enchantment. For example common Shrimp Lord 1 potions, rare Shrimp Lord 2 potions or epic Shrimp Lord 3 potions can be upgraded to legendary Shrimp Lord 4 potions.

Potion Quality Enchantment Level Vial Requirements Vendor Price
Common Potion Common Potion Level 1 Empty Vial Empty Vial 5
Rare Potion Rare Potion Level 2 Empty Vial Empty Vial or Common Potion Common Potion 10
Epic Potion Epic Potion Level 3 Empty Vial Empty Vial or Common Potion Common Potion or Rare Potion Rare Potion 15
Legendary Potion Legendary Potion Level 4 Empty Vial Empty Vial or Common Potion Common Potion or Rare Potion Rare Potion or Epic Potion Epic Potion 20

Potions can not be downgraded to lesser quality nor can they be emptied back into their Empty Vial state.

Potions with an existing enchantment can not be used to create potions with different enchantments.

Byproducts

Potions are brewed in batches or set amounts based on Cooking skill level. The higher the skill, the more potions can be brewed in one batch. In addition to creating a batch of potions, the brewing process has the possibility of creating other byproducts.

  • Ashes Ashes: When a brewing fails, the ingredients, heat Heat and 1 Empty Vial Empty Vial (or potion container) is used up to produce a set of ashes. To burn a potion intentionally:
    • Remove any cooking related gear or items with cooking related Affixes or equipment that provides any positive effects to cooking stats
    • Use equipment with the Overly Well Done enchantment
    • Refrain from drinking potions with Cooking (Enchantment)
    • Turn off the Cooking buff if it appears in the buff list
    • Cook difficult potions (usually the Intuition or Empowered Gathering ones have the greatest chance to fail)
    • Brew Legendary potions using Empty Vial Empty Vials
  • Raw Shrimp Raw Shrimp: Raw Shrimp may be produced if the potion batch is brewed while:
    • The chef is wearing equipment with Shrimp Lord
    • The Shrimp Lord global buff is active
    • And/or the chef has consumed potions with the Shrimp Lord Enchantment
  • Shrimp Bauble Shrimp Bauble: A Shrimp Bauble may be produced when Shrimp Lord potions are being made (or raw shrimp is being prepared into Filleted Fish Filleted Fish) and the chef is under the effect of at least Shrimp Lord 5 enchantment as a result of combining the following:
    • The chef is wearing equipment with the Shrimp Lord enchantment.
    • The Shrimp Lord global buff is active.
    • And/or the chef has consumed Shrimp Lord potions.
  • Fish Oil Fish Oil: If the potion contains fish or Filleted Fish Filleted Fish in the ingredients there is a possibility of Fish Oil being generated after a batch is brewed regardless of success.
  • Prismatic Extract Prismatic Extract: also has the possibility of being produced after successfully or unsuccessfully brewing a batch of potions.

To increase the probability of Fish Oil or Prismatic Extract being created:

Extra Potions

Whenever a potion batch (ie. a batch=50 potions) is successfully brewed, an equal amount of Empty Vials or other lesser quality containers is used up along with its required ingredients and heat. The result is typically one batch of potions with the possibility of an extra potion. An extra vial or potion container is used up if the extra potion is produced.

If an extra potion occurs because of an Efficiency buff or because of a successful roll of Alchemy Amount (due to an affixed cooking ward on a worn piece of equipment), then no ingredients, containers nor heat is used up. Similarly if the amount of potions is doubled due to a successful roll of Cooking Doubling extra resources are utilized.

Value and Rarity

Vendor price is not a reflection of a potion's value just as quality is not a reflection of a potion's rarity. Some potions are more 'valuable' due to the scarcity of their ingredients. For example, Intuition potions are created from rare Sageberry sageberries.

Other potions have relatively higher value due to the nature of their enchantment. For example, Empowered Gathering potions provide increased gathering capabilities without the cost of runes in comparison to regular Gathering potions.

The rarest potions are ones that can not be brewed but must be earned in combat such as the Gold Leaf Cook potion which is only dropped after completing the dungeon Master Chicken's Kitchen.
