Mining
Mining is a gathering skill that allows players to obtain ore used in Smithing. It is the only source of Geodes, Silver, and Rune slates. Mining is also a source of Gems and Salt. Each mining location provides different possible loot, but gems and Geodes can be found in every location.
The Deep Pit is a dangerous location, meaning the player may sometimes get attacked by a Greater Demon when mining there (Recommended gear is adamantite/runite with a recommended level of 50 for all combat stats). This fight cannot be escaped from, and losing to the Greater Demon locks the player out of the location for 15 minutes.
The action timer for mining can be sped up by leveling up, equipping a pickaxe, or using the Haste enchantment.

Uses
- Ore can be smelted into bars through Smithing
- Gems are used in Crafting and Augmenting
- Rune Slates are used in Runecrafting
- Geodes can be opened for a chance at ores, gems, additional geodes, or talismans
- Salt is used in Cooking
- Clay and Sand can be used to create Fertilizer
- Stone has no current use - it's classified as a "junk drop" for the purposes of the Destructive Testing enchantment
Zones/Drop Frequency
Out of all the zones, Deep Pit is the only dangerous zone where you will have to fight a Greater Demon at random intervals. Upon defeating the Greater Demon you will return to mining in the Deep Pit; however if you die, you will be set to -idle- until a new action is started manually. It is recommended to wear either Adamantite or Runite gear, have 60 combat stats, and a healing shield to defeat a Greater Demon. The Deep Pit is only profitable with a good pickaxe, superheat, and gathering.

, i.e. Clay in Desert: (3 / 106) * 100 = 2.83%

Gems
Gems are rare rewards received while mining, the drop chance of which can be boosted with the Scroll of the Prospector. Gems are used in Crafting and as a material while Augmenting.
Several Monsters drop gems, including Lesser Demons and Giants. Gems can also be found by opening Chests, while using the Scroll of Refining enchantment while smithing or by using the Scroll of Root Digging while Foraging.
When mining, the chance to obtain a gem is based on the base timer of the area. When hunting gems, it therefore doesn't matter which area is used. The Scroll of the Prospector can be used to enchant a pickaxe, which further increases the chance of finding gems when mining.
