A chunk of ore drawn from the core of the land itself. Not human mined, so where did it come from? |
Core Fragments are a rare byproduct from high level Smithing in the Volcanic Forge.
Acquisition
Core fragments can only be obtained through smithing of certain materials at the Volcanic Forge while wearing equipment with the Refining enchantment.

Improve the chances of refining these fragments by:
- Increasing the heat intensity and using the Metallurgy enchantment.
- Smithing higher tier bars such as Core Ingots, Chaotic Crystals and Stygian Bars. Core Ingots provide a higher chance than Chaotic Crystals which in turn have a higher chance than Stygian Bars. Other bars will not refine Core Fragments (unless your Smithing Skill is high enough and your Refining Enchantment is high enough).
- Using more
Scrolls of Refining on affected equipment (boots, gloves or tongs). If possible enchant a set of Dwarven Tongs to Refining 8, to increase enchantment strength. Note: Placing the same Refining enchantment on different pieces of equipment do not stack.
- Wearing an entire Smithing set of the
Smith's Golem Torso,
Smith's Golem Legs,
Chaos Crest, and
Dwarven Tongs to take advantage of the Legendary Smith set bonus.
- Picking Smith talents.
- Making strategic use of the Shrine of Toucan global buffs or production related potion buffs such as Efficiency.
Uses
Core Fragments are used to smelt Core Ingots at the Volcanic Forge which in turn are crafted into a
Dwarven Research Key.
